Where did you study acting? I learned on the set. It was sort of fly by the seat of your pants. I was really nervous the first few days. I just sort of watched Jude Law and Natalie Portman and copied them.
Do you think there’s a curse on singers—Madonna, Mariah Carey, Britney—who act? I guess. But I also think of Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Cher. I’m not trying to conquer Hollywood. I love my day job. I became a musician so I wouldn’t have to get up at 6 in the morning.
I don’t know anything about your personal life. I haven’t had a lot of time off in the past. Right now, I’m decorating my apartment and taking a pottery class.
What kind of pottery? Everything I make turns into a face. I usually end up putting a nose and some silly eyebrows and eyes on it. I’m making a sake set or a teapot set.
Is tea better for your voice? I don’t know. Coffee gives me bad breath.
Why don’t you sell your own line of teapots? No way, José! I don’t think anybody would buy it.
