“Today the conditions were difficult, but I think I played another solid match, doing a few things really well, I hit good returns, aggressive ones, and good backhands. I think I played a complete match. I think I’m returning better, especially (compared to) the last part of the 2011 season, so that’s important, because the beginning of the points a lot of times are the key. I’m happy about how my return has worked the two days here and how a few things have worked well with the new weight of the racket.”

Federer on the other hand continued his winning streak that has stretched back since his US Open semifinal loss to Djokovic. The streak is at 19 matches now. The result was a 6-2, 6-3 win over Grega Zemlja. The conditions were windy but Federer handled them with the assurance of a monk. He broke his opponent thrice in the match for a win in an hour.

“It’s important not to get frustrated by the wind. I used to be very emotional when I was younger. It was tough understanding how to win in the wind. But today, it doesn’t bother me anymore. You get used to it. I’m happy to come through matches easily at the beginning of the season, It can be tricky when you enter the first tournament of the season, and right away you play an incredibly tough three setter, let’s say. The body feels that, and that’s why I’m happy to be through into the quarterfinals without too much trouble.”

Roger will be meeting Italian Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinals. Till now in seven meetings between them, the Swiss ace hasn’t lost a single set.
